His story
First, a feeling.
Then, a melody.
A path into music, followed by ear.
His story
The person
behind the piano.
Born in Olomouc, then part of Czechoslovakia, Marek Brazda grew up during the communist era as the youngest of nine children. Faith has always been important to him. When he recalls the country’s transition to democracy, what stands out most is the freedom to practise that faith openly.
Music was woven into family life. The children sang in local groups, and his older brother Kamil became an accomplished organist. Marek initially followed a different path, earning his law degree in 2002 before building a career in cabaret theatre and becoming a well-known performer in the Czech arts scene.
At twenty-eight, a move to Portugal brought an unexpected turning point. Marek acquired his first piano and discovered a passion for composing. What began as a personal discovery became the focus of his creative life, leading him to write music for television, film and theatre.
He was later accepted into a Czech music conservatory, where he continued developing his musicianship before choosing to devote himself fully to his own compositions.
Inspired by the storytelling of Disney’s music and the expressive piano compositions of artists such as Yiruma, Marek writes from feeling. At the piano, he describes becoming so absorbed that he loses awareness of everything around him. Melodies take shape beneath his fingertips as he follows the feeling of the moment. Composing is his way of giving voice to an inner life that words cannot always express.
His performances have taken him across Europe, including Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Spain. Today, he lives in Xàbia, on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, with his partner Thomas and their four dogs—Dr. Dibley, Thor, Gogo and Elisabeth. Nature and the quieter rhythms of everyday life continue to inspire his music.
